BUFFALO, N.Y. - Sept. 21 - Erie Community College freshman Rylie Bean led the Kats to a 25-20, 24-26, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11 Western New York Athletic Conference win over Monroe Community College Wednesday night at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.
Bean, a middle hitter from Hamburg, N.Y/Frontier H.S., had 23 kills and six blocks as the ninth-ranked Kats improved to 12-1.
"That was one of the best matches I've seen an individual play wearing an Erie uniform the whole time I've been coaching," said ECC sixth-year head coach Craig Starzynski said. "She was our best hitter, our best passer, played great defense all around. What a performance."
Down 2-1 after three sets, ECC took a 10-2 lead in the fourth. Monroe CC rallied to tie it 14-14.
"We're young and it shows up like that. Our highs are really high and our lows are really low," Starzynski said. "It's a rollercoaster."
The Kats prevailed to win the fourth set before picking up the five-set win.
Freshman Katie Russi (Hamburg/Frontier) added 20 kills and four blocks while freshman Ashley Viengmay (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Maryvale) led with 21 digs. Danielle Aurellio-Clark (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) picked up 51 assists.
The Kats will play Alfred State College, Finger Lakes Community College and Monroe CC Sunday in Region III play at Alfred State.
