Athletics Department Holds Awards Night

BUFFALO – May 8 – The Erie Community College athletics department held its annual awards night Tuesday at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.

In addition to the athletics department naming the athletes of the year and honoring various individuals for their contributions, each team honored its most valuable player.

The most valuable players were:

  • Kermit Helmer Award (Men’s Bowling MVP) – Devon Miller, Dundee, N.Y.
  • Kermit Helmer Award (Women’s Bowling MVP) – Danielle Dolegala, Lancaster, N.Y.
  • Larry Katzman Award (Men’s Soccer MVP) – Pablo Ordonez, Cheektowaga, N.Y.
  • Cheerleading MVP – Danyelle Sorrentino, Cheektowaga, N.Y.
  • Women’s Soccer MVP – Allyson Wrazen, East Aurora, N.Y.
  • Volleyball MVP – Danielle Aurellio-Clark, Lancaster, N.Y.
  • Football Offensive Player of the Year – Zak Echols, Rockey River, Ohio
  • Football Defensive Player of the Year – Ian Marouf, Fort Erie, Ont.
  • Helen DiPota Award (Women’s Basketball MVP) – Bianca Dennis, Cleveland, Ohio
  • Richard R. Dry Award (Men’s Basketball MVP) – Dequan Jones, Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • Lacrosse MVP – Melanie Sterlace, West Seneca, N.Y.
  • Marie Stachowski Award (Softball MVP) – Korin Frantz, Grand Island, N.Y.
  • Paschal C. Rubino Award (Baseball MVP) – to be awarded following season

Also awarded were the following:

  • Appreciation Award – Gregory Sobilo, Hamburg, N.Y.
  • George Killian Award – Susan Duke, Paul Lamanna, Sam Palumbo (ECC staff members)
  • Helen R. Cornell Award – Angelica Rodriguez (lacrosse), Buffalo, N.Y.
  • Ralph J. Galanti, Sr. Athletic Scholarship Award – Shane Mullen (football, hockey), Cheektowaga, N.Y. 
  • Grace Galanti Athletic Achievement Award – Bianca Dennis, (women’s basketball) Cleveland, Ohio
  • Lawrence C. Spring Female Athlete of the Year – Rylie Bean (volleyball), Hamburg, N.Y.
    Lawrence C. Spring Male Athlete of the Year – Mike Wagner (baseball) Williamsville, N.Y.
