ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - May 24 - The Erie Community College lacrosse team, which finished the season ranked 10th in the nation, placed six individuals on the All-Western New York Athletic Conference team, announced today by the league. ECC placed three on the first team and three on the second team.
Sophomore attack Melanie Sterlace (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East), freshman defender Jessica Tunis (Buffalo/Lake Shore), and freshman midfielder Carlye Burke (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) were on the first team while sophomore goalie Angie Rodriguez (Buffalo, N.Y./Midwood) and freshmen midfielders Destiny Sampson (Irving, N.Y./Gowanda) and Emery Fleck (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) were second-team selections.
Sterlace and Rodriguez were both second-team picks in 2011.
This season, Sterlace led the Kats with 42 goals and 63 points to rank 17th nation in points. Burke recorded 62 points, highlighted by a team-best 28 assists to rank 18th in points. Burke added 34 goals. Tunis netted 16 goals to go with 12 assists for her 28 points. Rodriguez was sixth in the nation in goals-allowed average of 10.9 and 10th in NJCAA with 125 saves. Sampson added 22 goals and 19 assists while Fleck picked up 25 points (21 goals/4 assists).
ECC finished with a 7-6 record.
