The Erie Community College cheerleading squad participated in the KISS (98.5 FM, WKSE) Cares for Kids Radiothon at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo this past weekend.
The Kats made a $500 donation after holding the fifth Annual Patty Shelley Queen City Cheer and Dance Classic Jan. 28 at the Buffalo Niagara Court Center in West Seneca. Forty-two area cheerleading teams participated in the competition. Shelley, a long-time leader on the Western New York cheerleading scene, died in 2006 after being diagnosed with cancer.
“Not only was she a role model, a mentor and a friend to me, but Patty also contributed to the development and success of many cheerleading teams and programs in the area. Her most remarkable traits were her unselfishness, and her willingness to see only the good in everyone,” ECC head coach LeAnne Gerth said. “This event was created in her memory so that we can donate funds to help others in Patty's honor, provided by her passion: cheerleading.”
