Kats Split Twin Bill with Monroe CC

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - April 9 - Sophomore Neal Demartin (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) scored on double steal in the fifth inning to lift the Erie Community College baseball team to a 5-4 win over Monroe Community College Saturday in game one of a Region III doubleheader at ECC North.

Monroe CC defeated ECC 2-1 in the nightcap. The split gives ECC a 10-10 record. Monroe CC is 16-6.

In game one, sophomore infielder Emilio Arteta (Miami, Fla./Dr. Michael M. Krop) had two hits, including a solo home run, while freshman catcher Joe Christiano (Depew, N.Y./Scottsdale) had a two-run double in the fourth inning. Sophomore Cody Dunn (Ottawa, Ont./Bea Trice Des Loges) picked up the pitching win and recorded four strikeouts in four innings. Freshman pitcher Alex Dannett (Brampton, Ont./BCSS) struck out four batters in three innings.

Game two saw Bo Aquila (Alden, N.Y./Alden) pick up a hit, stolen base and one run scored. ECC had the bases loaded with no outs in the sixth inning but could only plate one run.

The teams will play Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader in Rochester.
