Big Innings, Pitching Power Kats to Sweep

ARNOLD, Md. - March 24 - The Erie Community College baseball team only scored in three innings of Sunday's doubleheader against Anne Arundel CC but the Kats scored enough to record wins of 6-3 and 10-1. ECC pitchers Ian Walsh (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) and Cody Alessi (Trinity, Fla./Eastlake) each threw six scoreless innings as the Kats improved to 9-8 on the season.

ECC used a six-run first inning in the opener. The Kats had five hits in the frame. Sophomore first baseman Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville) had a two-run double in the inning and sophomore second baseman Nick Galenti (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's) added a three-run double later in the frame. Mendiola and freshman Tyler Hoffhines (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) each had two hits in the contest.

Alessi improved to 3-0 in the nightcap. He opened the game with six scoreless innings but gave up a run in the seventh. The Kats scored four runs in the second inning and added six runs in the seventh. ECC used four hits and an error to plate its runs in the second.

ECC is scheduled to play Genesee CC in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday at the ECC North diamond.
