Golf finishes eighth at nationals

The Erie Community College men’s golf team finished eighth at the NJCAA Division III Golf Championship played at the Chautauqua Golf Course. It was the best-ever finish for the Kats.

Erie posted a four-round total of 1,273. Monroe Community College won the tournament for the second straight year with 1,217 strokes.

Freshman Kyle Harman was Erie’s top golfer after firing a 312, including a four over par 76 on the final day, to finish 23rd out of 89 competitors. Sophomore Blak Ihrig was tied for 33rd with a 319, freshman Brian Whitbeck was tied for 38th with a 320, sophomore Ryan Winkowski was 59th with a 327 and sophomore Mike Krywcum finished 71st with a 340..
