Shumate Named to All-Region III Rookie Team

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Feb. 21 - Matt Shumate, a freshman forward on the Erie Community College hockey team, has been chosen to the All-Region III Rookie Team, announced today by the league. Shumate (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) has recorded 36 points (17 goals/19 assists) in 20 games this season.
Also honored by Region III are sophomore forward Eric Mueller (Hamburg, N.Y./Canisius) and sophomore defenseman Ryan Kaufman (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home). Both were named All-Region III second-team selections. Mueller has scored 36 points (16 goals/20 assists) in 20 contests while Kaufman has contributed 15 points (4 goals/11 assists) in 15 games.
 
ECC head coach Gary Rost, who recently won his 125th career game, was named the Region III second-team coach of the year.

The Kats, the nation's fourth-ranked team and 13-7 overall, will play at 1 p.m. Saturday in the NJCAA semifinals against Monroe CC. The championships will be held at The Sports Centre in Rochester, N.Y.
