Zellner Powers Kats Past Alfred State

HORNELL, N.Y. - April 26 - Sophomore first baseman Jesse Zellner (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) led the Erie Community College baseball team with two hits and three runs batted in as the Kats recorded a 12-4 win over Alfred State Thursday afternoon at the Maple City Park. Game two of the scheduled Region III doubleheader was rained out in the fifth inning, falling just shy of an official game.

Zellner had a two-run double in the seventh inning. ECC scored five runs in both the first and fourth innings.

Joining Zellner with two hits were freshman Adam Urschel (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence), sophomore Adam Grace (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls), sophomore Matt Creenan (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence), freshman Steven Hubbs (Hamilton, Ont./Sir Winston Churchill), and sophomore Dylan Huch (Gowanda, N.Y./Gowanda). Grace and Hubbs each drove in two runs.

Sophomore Ron Lawrence (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cleveland Hill) struck out eight batters in five innings to pick up the win.

ECC, now 25-12, will play Niagara County CC in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at the ECC North Campus.
