FASNY tuition reimbursement program extends application deadline to February 15

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

BUFFALO—Erie Community College officials announced on Wednesday that Erie County's volunteer firefighters now have until February 15th to apply for Spring 2013 tuition reimbursement through the Firemen's Association of the State of New York Higher Education Learning Plan.

The Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) developed the plan as an incentive for state residents to serve in volunteer fire service. New York's volunteer fire departments are currently experiencing a critical need to recruit and retain members. As an incentive for people to serve, FASNY has developed the Higher Education Learning Plan (FASNY HELP). This program provides tuition reimbursement to individuals attending community college for up to eighty (80) credit hours.

"Our faculty and staff work tirelessly to provide the area's most complete training for local firefighters," said ECC President Jack Quinn. "We look forward to continuing this work with current and future volunteers, ones who'll be a source of Western New York pride for generations to come."

Under FASNY HELP, student-volunteers are eligible to have up to 100% of their tuition reimbursed in exchange for maintaining their grades and fulfilling defined service requirements. They must also be a "member in good standing" in one of New York's volunteer fire companies during both their school years and service payback period.

For information on the program and how to apply: go online to www.fasny.com/index.php/resources/fasny-help, send e-mail to HELP@fasny.com to the attention of John D'Alessandro, deputy volunteer programs coordinator, or call (855) 367-6933.

Since 1946, Erie Community College has met the needs of a diverse student body while contributing to the economic vitality of Western New York. As a member of the state's SUNY system, the three-campus college provides flexible, affordable and accessible educational programs in an accommodating academic environment. Equipped with the knowledge of these programs, ECC's faculty, staff and students strive to enrich their host communities through skill, service and partnership.
