Men's soccer drops close game to Mercyhurst Northeast 2-1

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

The Erie Community College men's soccer team battled a tough Mercyhurst Northeast squad Monday and after a tough start, dropped the game 2-1.

The Kats fell behind early as Mercyhurst scored on a penalty kick in the 10th minute. After, the rest of the half was quiet with both teams having scoring opportunities but no one finding the back of the net.

In the 56th minute, the Saints extended their lead to two goals. The Kats bounced back quickly when Dan Emma's (Lancaster / Lancaster, N.Y) diving header off a pass of Scott Barrett (West Seneca East / West Seneca, N.Y.) found the back of the net. ECC controlled play for the remaining of the game but was unable to find a way to tie the game. Goalie Brandon Hackbarth (St Francis / Hamburg, N.Y.) went all 90 minutes, finishing with 9 saves.
