ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 9) - Freshman Pablo Ordonez (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga H.S.) scored two goals, including the game-winner with eight minutes remaining, to lift the Erie Community College men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Mercyhurst North East Saturday. ECC is now 9-3 this season. ECC last won nine matches in the 2006 campaign.
Sophomore Craig Raines (Gloucester, Va./Greensboro College) put the Kats on the board when he scored in the 25th minute on a pass from Erik Greiner (Hamburg/Frontier H.S.). Mercyhurst North East answered a minute later on a free kick. Ordonez scored his first goal of the contest on a free kick from 40 yards out, three minutes before halftime.
After Mercyhurst North East scored after a scramble in front of the ECC net, Ordonez took a pass from Adan Mukumbira (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland H.S.) and scored from 18 yards out with eight minutes remaining.
"It was a physical match, but a well-earned victory for the Kats," ECC head coach Bernie Feldmann said.
ECC plays at Niagara County CC Thursday at 4 p.m.
