Second-Half Run Powers ECC over NCCC

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - March 2 - Freshman guard Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Erie Community College men's basketball team to a 97-94 win over Niagara County CC in the Region III Tournament semifinals. The Kats will play No. 5 Monroe CC in Sunday's 1 p.m. championship game.

Sophomore guard Aubrey Ball (Carrolton, Texas/Creek View) added 19 points and classmate Isaiah Jefferson (Buffalo, N.Y./Riverside) contributed 15 points and six assists. Sophomore guard Darale Young (Buffalo, N.Y./Middle College) scored 14 points in a reserve role.

Ethan Baker led NCCC with 22 points.

NCCC had a 49-43 lead at halftime and pushed it to 69-57 at 13:56 on a Baker basket. ECC took an 85-83 lead when Ball sank two free throws with 6:38 to play. NCCC then took a 91-87 lead on a three-point basket with 3:27 remaining but the Kats used a 6-0 run highlighted by a conventional three-point play by Rayshawn Sumlin (Cleveland, Ohio/Martin Luther King) with 2:15 left. Jefferson sank two fouls with one second remaining for the final margin.
