ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Feb. 25 - The Erie Community College hockey team's chance to repeat as the NJCAA national champion ended Saturday with a 6-3 loss to Williston (N.D.) State in the NJCAA Tournament's semifinal round. The Kats end their season 19-5 while Williston State plays Monroe Community College, which defeated the County College of Morris 9-2, Sunday at 2 p.m. ECC had advanced to the past three national championship games.
The Kats got on the board first when freshman forward Scott Roy (Rockland, Ont.) scored on the power play just 2:29 into the game. However, Williston State tied the game 14 seconds later. ECC then took a 2-1 lead when sophomore forward Dirk Thur (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) scored at 7:16. Williston State then scored the next three goals to build a 4-2 lead halfway through the second period.
Sophomore forward Christopher Kendall (Cheektowaga, N.Y.), who was an All-Region III first-team selection, then cut the Tetons' lead to 4-3 with a goal at 15:37 of the second. Joshua Jaszcz (Cheektowaga, N.Y./West Seneca East) was credited with his second assist of the game on Kendall's goal.
The Tetons, who outshot ECC 53-37, scored two third-period goals for the 6-3 final.
