ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Feb. 12 - Through two days of competition in the NJCAA Region III Swimming and Diving Championships at Monroe Community College, the Erie Community College women's team has been led by Caitlin Schwinge.
Schwinge, a sophomore from Amherst, N.Y. (Sweet Home), finished fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:59.26) and seventh in the 400 individual medley (5:42.95). She has also participated in the Kats' 200 medley relay (5th, 2:20.14); 400 medley relay (6th, 5:27.29) and 200 freestyle relay (7th, 2:06.14). Rachelle Schmitt (Elma/Iroquois) was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.16).
On the men's side, freshman Brett Farrell (Derby/Lake Shore) was fifth in the 500 freestyle in 23.14 seconds and fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:01.51).
Through 26 events, the ECC women's team was sixth with 95 points while the men's squad was sixth with 101 points.
The championships conclude Sunday.
