SANBORN, N.Y. - Adan Mukumbira scored two goals to lead the Erie Community College men's soccer team to a 4-3 victory over Niagara County Community College Thursday at NCCC. ECC improves to 10-3. The 10 wins are the program's most since the 2003 team went 11-6-1.
Mukumbira, a freshman midfielder (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland H.S.) gave the Kats a 4-2 lead with a blast from almost midfield before halftime. Mukumbira now has a team-high 14 goals this season.
The Kats took a 2-0 lead after goals by Omar Sundi (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland H.S.) and Mohamed Mohamed (Lackawanna/Lackawanna H.S.). Craig Raines (Gloucester, Va./Greensboro College) assisted on Sundi's goal.
Mukumbira, on an assist by Mohamed, gave the Kats a 3-0 lead. NCCC rallied to make it 3-2 before Mukumbira's second, and eventual game-winning, goal. Elliott Griffin (Hamburg/Frontier H.S.) recorded the assist.
"In the first half, we played really well", ECC assistant coach Gary Boughton said. "In the second half, we dealt with the weather and the wind. We struggled through it and got the win."
Gobran Nagi (Lackawanna/Lackawanna H.S.) made seven saves for the victory.
ECC plays Broome Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Binghamton
