ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (Oct. 23) - Jon Sikorski scored two goals to lead the Erie Community College men's soccer team to a 3-0 win Saturday over Finger Lakes Community College in a Region III tournament contest. The Kats improve to 11-4, the program's most wins since 2003 (11-6-1). The sub-regional tournament win was the Kats' first since a 3-1 victory over Genesee CC Oct. 18, 2003.
Sikorski, a sophomore midfielder from Hamburg, N.Y. (Frontier H.S.), gave the Kats a 1-0 lead 23 minutes into the match. He then made it 2-0 when his shot snuck in beside the left post with 31 minutes remaining. Pablo Ordonez (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga H.S.) scored the Kats' third goal with the assist going to Badr Mohammed (Lackawanna, N.Y./Lackawanna H.S.). Gobran Nagi (Lackawanna, N.Y./Lackawanna H.S.) posted the shutout, making seven saves.
"The game was almost an exact copy of the first time we played," ECC head coach Bernie Feldmann said, noting the Kats' 2-0 win over Finger Lakes CC on Sept. 2. "Finger Lakes is good, plays hard and is a physical team. We had to keep our head and stay composed."
The Kats will play at Genesee CC Tuesday. The game time is still to be determined. ECC won the regular-season match 5-3 on Sept. 9 behind three goals by Adan Mukumbira (Buffalo/Grover Cleveland H.S.).
"We know GCC will be gunning for us as we're one of the two blemishes on their schedule," Feldmann said. "They're extremely talented and it should be a good match."
