Friol’s Hat Trick Carries Kats

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (Nov. 9) - Erie Community College sophomore forward Nick Friol (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored three goals as the Kats hockey team erupted for a total of nine goals in the second and third periods and defeated the Penn State Behrend ACHA team, 11-5, Tuesday night at the Cheektowaga Ice Rink.

ECC sophomore forward Todd Lyness (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) scored two goals and added two assists while freshman forward Justin Banaszak (Lancaster, N.Y.) had a goal and three assists.

The score was 2-2 after the first period before Lyness gave the Kats a 3-2 midway through the second period. Lyness' tally was the first of four-straight ECC goals.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Smith (Fr., Clarence, N.Y.) made 27 saves to record the victory.

ECC, now 3-1, plays Mohawk Valley Community College Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at the Cheektowaga Ice Rink.
