The Erie Community College baseball team split Friday's Western New York Athletic Conference doubleheader with conference leader Genesee Community College. The Kats, now 5-5, lost game one 7-6 before rebounding with a 3-0 win in the nightcap. GCC is now 6-2 on the season.
In game two, freshman pitcher Jesse Zellner (Tonawanda H.S.) struck out eight batters while allowing two hits in a complete game. Zeller, now 2-0, faced 22 batters, one over the minimum in the 73-minute contest. Joe Pantano (St. Francis H.S.) and T. J. Singh (Toronto, Ont.) each had two hits and drove in one run in the first inning.
Sophomore right-hander Nick Cummings (Akron H.S.) scattered five hits and allowed one earned run in six innings in the opening contest. Pantano had two hits and a run batted in the game. Matt Darlak (Clarence H.S.) had three hits and a RBI. Trailing 7-4 entering the seventh, ECC's Matt Creenan (Clarence H.S.) had a RBI single before Mike Ferracuti (Michael Power St. Joe's, Ontario) drove in a run on a fielder's choice. The Kats, with two runners on and two outs, then flew out to end the game.
ECC will Jamestown Community College Sunday in a conference twin bill. Game one starts at 1 p.m.
