Schnurr Wins 7th, Kats Split DH

ALFRED, N.Y. - May 4 - Freshman pitcher Michael Schnurr (Waterloo, Ont./St. David's) improved to 7-0 as the Erie Community College baseball team picked up a 5-3 win over Alfred State College Saturday afternoon in Region III action. Despite Marc Dileo (Williamsville, N.Y./Canisius) recording three hits and three runs batted in in game two, Alfred State scored six runs in the fourth inning for a 6-5 win.

Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) drove in a run in the opener to give him a NJCAA Division III-leading 61 this season. Schnurr scattered five hits and struck out five. His seven wins are tied for second in the nation.

The Kats trailed 3-0 before Kyle Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) doubled and scored in the sixth. Barry then drove in Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins). Ricky Mendiola (Willliamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) doubled to drive in Barry. Mendiola would score on an error. Kyle Sherman added a RBI single in the seventh for the final margin.

In the nightcap, Dileo homered in the second and added RBI singles in the third and fifth innings.

The Kats, now 32-17, will play Onondaga CC at 1 p.m. Sunday in Syracuse, N.Y.
