Erie Community College President Jack Quinn has voiced his strong support for New York State Governor David Paterson’s Public Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act announced Friday, January 15 as part of the governor’s proposed 2010-11 Executive Budget.
“Governor Paterson’s Public Higher Education Act is a giant step forward for higher education in New York State. Allowing schools in the SUNY system to control their own destiny is necessary, important and makes sense.” Quinn said.
He added, “University at Buffalo President John Simpson and his team deserve significant praise for their diligent work to make these vital reforms become a reality. Likewise, SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher has demonstrated great leadership in helping to move this critical education initiative forward and ensuring a better future for the SUNY system.”
Quinn also said he looks forward to a lively discussion with state legislators and other stakeholders on budget matters affecting community colleges and the students they serve.
