Christiano Lifts Kats to Split against Monroe CC

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - April 10 - Joe Christiano (Depew, N.Y./Scottsdale) delivered a bases-clearing triple in the fourth inning before scoring on an error as the Erie Community College baseball team picked up a 5-4 game one win over Monroe Community College in Sunday's Region III doubleheader. Monroe CC recorded a 4-3 win in game two.

Christiano had two hits in the game for ECC, now 11-11. Nick Cummings (Akron, N.Y./Akron) pitched 5 1/3 innings to get the win. Ron Lawrence (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cleveland Hill) recorded the last five outs for his first save.

Jesse Zellner (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) struck out five batters while allowing one earning run in five innings to go with a run scored and a run batted in as the Kats suffered the loss. ECC took a 2-0 lead after its turn at the plate in the first inning but Monroe CC added two runs of its own that inning. The Kats scored in the fifth inning for a 3-2 lead only to see Monroe CC score twice in its half of the inning for the 4-3 score.

ECC will play Alfred State in a Tuesday 2 p.m. doubleheader at the North Campus.
