Nine Second-Period Goals Power Kats

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Dec. 2 – The Erie Community College hockey team erupted for nine second-period goals and went on to record a 14-1 win Sunday afternoon over the County College of Morris at the Cheektowaga Rec Center.

ECC sophomore forward Eric Mueller (Hamburg, N.Y./Canisius) had a team-high six points as the netted two goals and added four assists. Freshmen Matt Shumate (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) and Bradley Ferrell (East Amherst, N.Y.) and sophomore Joshua Jaszcz (Cheektowaga, N.Y./West Seneca East) each contributed two goals. Sophomore forward Ryan Rogalski (Lancaster, N.Y.) had a team-high four assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Shane Mullen (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Maryvale) made 15 saves and was only beaten during a 5-on-3 CCM power play.

After a scoreless first period, sophomore Jeff Strewczyk (West Seneca, N.Y.) scored 17 seconds into the second period. Malley added a goal two minutes later before Ferrell scored at 3:13. Mueller scored two of his goals in the third period.

The Kats will play Hudson Valley CC in Region III play at 7 p.m. Friday in Troy, N.Y. The teams will also play at noon Saturday.
