Kats Open 2013 with Two Wins

TAMPA, Fla. - March 9 - The Erie Community College baseball team used a run in the seventh inning to pick up an 8-7 win over Minnesota State Community and Technical College Friday night to open the 2013 season. The Kats then handed MSCTC a 12-6 loss in the nightcap. In Saturday's action, ECC fell 12-5 to Pasco Hernando CC.

Sophomore Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) led off the inning with a double and then scored on a bunt single by sophomore Nick Galenti (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's).

Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in four runs while freshman Marc Dileo (Williamsville, N.Y./Canisius) had two hits and drove in two runs. Sophomore Ian Walsh (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) picks up the win in relief while freshman Michael D'Eletto (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) picked up the save.

In game two, Galenti had two hits and drove in three runs. Dileo also had two hits. The Kats plated six runs in the first and added three more in the second. Kyle Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) had a two-run double in the first inning.

Vinny Sherman and Dileo led the Kats with two hits each Saturday in a 12-5 loss to Pasco Hernando. PHCC scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-3 lead.

ECC will play Mesabi Range (Minn.) CTC in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Sunday.
