SYRACUSE, N.Y. - May 5 - The Erie Community College baseball team recorded its sixth-straight split of a doubleheader Sunday, falling 2-1 in 11 innings to Onondaga CC and then recording a 13-8 win in game two of the Region III twin bill. ECC, now 33-18, will close the regular season with two games Monday at Corning CC.
Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) allowed only six hits in nine innings, but one of the hits was a home run to open the seventh inning. Onondaga would use a hit batter, a double, a walk and a two-out single in the 11th for the win. Barry had two hits in the contest while freshman Nick Caboot (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) had three hits, including a run-scoring double in the third.
In game two, ECC scored 10 runs in the final three innings to rally for the win. The Kats took a 6-4 lead in the fifth as Zach Hayes (Orchard Park, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude) had a two-run single and Kyle Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) added a RBI single.
After Onondaga CC scored three runs in its half of the fifth, Marc Dileo (Williamsville, N.Y./Canisius) gave the Kats the lead with a two-out, two-run single. Dileo would add a two-run double in the seventh. Barry and Kyle Sherman each had three hits. Dileo, Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins), Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South), and Nick Manoukarakis (Toronto, Ont./Birchmount Park) added two hits each.
