The Erie Community College volleyball team (0-3) dropped a four-set match (25-22, 25-19, 20-25, 25-13) to Niagara County Community College (3-2) Tuesday night at the Burt Flickinger Center.
In game one, NCCC opened an 8-5 lead before the Kats ran off five of six points. Alex DiGiore (Hamburg/Frontier) had a pair of kills and a block assist to power the Kats' run. The teams traded points and small runs before NCCC scored the game's final three points for the set victory.
ECC opened a 13-11 lead in set two before NCCC called time and then rallied to score seven-straight points and 10 of the game's next 11 for a 21-14 lead.
"We're still trying to find our go-to hitter to get us out of runs," head coach Craig Starzynksi said. "We're trying a new offense. We practiced it one day. We played better than expected. We'll get better, better and better with time."
The new offense helped the Kats in game three as Julia Gangloff (Lancaster/Lancaster) had three service aces and two kills in the 25-20 win.
NCCC broke away for a 14-7 lead in game four. The Thunderwolves scored the game's final seven points for the victory.
Christina Boxler (Attica/Attica) led ECC with 28 digs while Gangloff added 18. Kayla DiBello (Buffalo/Sweet Home) had a team-high seven kills while Molly Gasuik (Buffalo/Mt. Mercy Academy) led the way with six service aces. Gangloff added five aces.
ECC will play Saturday in a tournament at Jefferson Community College.
