Dickey Runs for 104 in Kats' Loss to Conference Leader

Saturday, October 15, 2011

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Oct. 15 – Freshman running back J.J. Dickey ran for a career-high 104 yards but the Erie Community College football team suffered a 19-13 loss to Northeast Football Conference leader Dean College Saturday at Jim Ball Stadium. Dickey, a freshman from Salem, N.J. entered the game with 45 yards rushing. He surpassed that mark in the first half on his way to his first 100-yard rushing day as a Kat.

With gusts up to 40 miles per hair and occasional driving rain, the game was dictated by the elements. A negative one-yard ECC punt set up Dean’s first scoring drive, a one-yard run by Andre Williams, the NFC Offensive Player of the Week Oct. 11. Williams finished the game with 141 yards and two touchdowns.

A short Dean punt and 17-yard return by Dan Louis (Lake Worth, Fla.) put the Kats on the Dean 8. On the next play, Dickey scored to tie the game.

Louis’ second interception of the game set up ECC’s next scoring drive, a 14-play, 78-yard drive which culminated in a one-yard sneak by Jullian Salerno (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with 1:44 to play in the third quarter.

Dean scored on the third quarter’s final play. Facing fourth-and-15, Dean quarterback Nolan Martin hit Robbie Jackson over the middle. Jackson broke a tackle and outran everyone to the far pylon to score and give the Bulldogs a 13-7 lead. The point-after attempt failed.

Dean’s kickoff was hung up in the wind and a Bulldog recovered on the far sideline on the ECC 48. Five plays later Williams broke through the middle of the line to score his second touchdown.

Sophomore linebacker Brian Doyle (Syracuse, N.Y./G.W. Fowler) led the Kats with 12 tackles while defensive lineman Jon Connors (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East) and Matt Knotts (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) each had seven tackles. Knotts added a quarterback sack.

The Kats, now 2-5 overall and 1-4 in NFC action, play ASA Oct. 22 at noon at Jim Ball Stadium in NFC play.
