WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Sept. 27 - Behind sophomore left-handed pitcher Mike Tolsma, the Erie Community College baseball team recorded a 12-3 win over Alfred State Tuesday in the first round of the Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament. Tolsma (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) scattered six hits and struck out six in the seven-inning game. The contest was shortened to due a run rule.
Sophomore shortstop Joe Pantano (Fredonia, N.Y./St. Francis) drove in three runs with a pair of doubles.
Tolsma and the Kats rebounded after allowing three runs in the first inning by plating six runs in their half of the inning and never looked back.
ECC, now 9-4, advanced to Saturday's semifinal round at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia. Monroe Community College and Genesee Community College also won Tuesday to advance. Mercyhurst North East, which won the regular season, received a bye into the semifinals. The first game will be at 11 a.m., with the second semifinal starting at 2 p.m. The championship game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
