The Erie Community College (24-12/18-4 Region III West) swept a doubleheader from Tompkins Cortland Community College (15-21/11-13 Region III West) Thursday afternoon in Williamsville. Erie won the opener 12-2 in five innings and came away with a 10-3 win in the nightcap.
Erie pounded out 12 hits in only four innings of hitting in the opener. Sophomore Shane Latshaw was three-for-four with three RBI to lead the Kats. Freshman Russ Hurley was three-for-three with a double and two RBI and freshman Austin Benshadle was two-for-two with an RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Kiernan Harris allowed two runs on four hits to pick up his seventh win of the season. He struck out one and walked one.
Tompkins Cortland took advantage of two Erie errors to plate three runs in the first inning of the second game. However, the Kats responded with eight runs of their own – all coming with two outs –in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.
Freshman Kyle O’Brien and freshman Joe Hopkins were each two-for-three with an RBI. Benshadle was two-for-three with two RBI and sophomore Joe Hewak had a two-run double.
Sophomore pitcher Lou Falzone picked up the win on the hill after allowing three runs (none earned) on four hits in six innings of work. He struck out six and walked two.
