WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - April 23 - Sophomore Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) homered in each game to lead the Erie Community College baseball team to 13-2 and 11-1 wins over Broome CC Tuesday afternoon at the ECC north campus diamond. Barry, whose six homers rank fourth in the NJCAA Division III baseball statistics, and the Kats have won their past eight contests and are now 25-12.
Freshman Tyler Hoffhines (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster) led the Kats with three hits and three runs batted in in the opener as sophomore Ian Walsh (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) allowed two hits to pick up the win. The Kats scored five in the inning as Hoffhines had a bases-clearing double. ECC then added six runs in the third, two coming on Barry's homer run to center field.
In the nightcap, sophomore Cody Alessi (Trinity, Fla./Eastlake) improved to 6-0. Alessi's six wins rank him second in the nation for pitching victories. He allowed an unearned run in the first, snapping his scoreless inning streak at 12. He has allowed two runs in his last 25 innings. The Kats scored seven times in the third inning, three coming on Barry's homer to left field. Jake Weiser (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) added a two-run single in the sixth. Nick Caboot (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) led ECC with three hits.
The Kats will play Lakeland (Ohio) CC in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday at the ECC north campus diamond.
