ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – (Oct. 2) – Freshman midfielder Anastasia Zarbo (West Seneca/West Seneca East) scored two goals to lift the Erie Community College women’s soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over Broome Community College Saturday at the ECC South Campus. The win was ECC’s second of the season as the Kats improve to 2-8-1.
With ECC trailing 1-0, Zarbo tied the game with a goal at 3:30 remaining when she tapped in a loose ball in front of the Broome net. Danielle Beurgin (Angola/Lake Shore) and Jessica Dispenza (Orchard Park) were credited with assists.
After a Broome CC opportunity to open overtime, ECC responded when Zarbo’s left-footed shot went between the left goal post and the Broome CC goalkeeper 55 seconds in the extra session. Beurgin also assisted on that goal.
Shea Garby (Lancaster/Lancaster) made six saves to record her first collegiate victory as a goalkeeper.
“Suzanne Jacobs (Amherst/Williamsville North) made a huge difference in the middle today,” ECC head coach Tiffany Pompeo said. “She controlled the middle. Shea stepped up and made some saves when she had to. She hadn’t played in goal in a while but she stepped up and played well for us in there.”
ECC plays Cayuga Community College Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the ECC South Campus.
