Kats Close Regular Season with 4-1 Win

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Feb 18 – The Erie Community College hockey team, the nation’s fourth-ranked squad, knocked off Canisius College (ACHA) on its Senior Day with a 4-1 victory Monday afternoon at the Cheektowaga Rec Center.

ECCgoaltenders Nic Pagano (Holland, N.Y.), Shane Mullen (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Maryvale) and Daniel Fulton (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon St. Jude) combined for 38 saves on the day, including one on a short-handed breakaway attempt in the second period.

Following a penalty, ECC sophomore forward Joe Rohm (Hamburg, N.Y.) gave the Kats a 3-1 lead when recorded scored a short-handed tally.

Matt Shumate (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) recorded two goals and an assist while Matt Malley (North Tonawanda) scored a power-play goal in the second period and assisted on Shumate's first goal. Joshua Jaszcz (Cheektowaga, N.Y./West Seneca East) was credited with two assists.

The Kats, now 13-7, will play top-ranked Monroe CC at 1 p.m. Saturday in the NJCAA Hockey Championship semifinals at The Sports Centre in Rochester, N.Y.
