FRANKLIN, Mass. - Oct. 13 - Dean College rallied to defeat the Erie Community College football team 33-32 Saturday afternoon at Longley Field in Northeast Football Conference action. ECC freshman running back Jacob Wims (Rochester, N.Y./John Marshall) ran for a career-high 210 yards - the third-highest single-game total in Kats' history - and a 79-yard touchdown. The 79-yard run was also the third-longest run in the Kats' 12-year history.
Trailing 21-0, ECC's Tyler Blackburn (Montrose, Mich./Montrose) kicked a 42-yard field goal with 11 seconds remaining in the first half. In the third quarter, Will Robinson (Weequahic, N.J./Weequahic) scored on a 5-yard run before Blackburn added a 33-yard field goal. ECC's Laquan Middleton (Spring Valley, N.Y./St. Joseph's Regional) returned a fumble 76 yards for a touchdown to bring the Kats within two, 21-19.
On ECC's next possession, Wims went 79 yards on the first play to give ECC a 26-21 lead but Dean answered for a 27-26 lead. Robinson then snuck in for his second TD but the two-point conversion attempt failed, giving ECC a 32-27 lead with 7:01 remaining. Dean then won the game when Quint Perkins scored on a 25-yard run.
ECC was later stopped on fourth down with approximately two minutes remaining.
The Kats, now 2-5 overall and 1-4 in NEFC play, will play No. 8 ASA in Brooklyn, N.Y., Oct. 20.
