BUFFALO, N.Y. – Dec. 6 – Dequan Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./Pacific) scored a career-high 30 points and snared 10 rebounds to lead the Erie Community College men’s basketball team to a 101-92 win over Niagara (Ont.) College Tuesday night at the Flickinger Athletic Center.
Jones recorded his fourth double-double of the season and sixth of his career as the Kats, ranked 13th in Tuesday’s NJCAA Division II poll, improved to 7-2.
Freshman forward Eyimofee Edukugho (Warri, Nigeria) scored 14 points and blocked six shots while sophomore guard Brandon Emmitt (Akron, Ohio/Garfield) had 12 points in a reserve role. Emmitt also recorded a career-high six steals and a team-high five assists.
Jones hit all seven of his shots, including two three-point field goals, in the first half as the Kats opened a 55-42 lead. ECC pulled away to a 21-point lead, 84-63, on a three-point field goal by Emmitt with 9:01 remaining. Niagara’s Alex Campbell then scored 13 straight-points to cap a 19-9 run to bring the Knights within 11, 93-82, with 4:17 remaining.
Campbell led Niagara with 28 points.
ECC will play Delta (Mich.) College in the Lynn Conway Memorial Classic at 8 p.m. Friday.
