ORCHARD PARK—On Friday, April 20th, Erie Community College hosted SUNY Chancellor Dr. Nancy Zimpher and various members of the Western New York business and education community as part of its annual Advisory Council Partner and Community Appreciation Breakfast event inside its South Campus cafeteria.
The event—meant to recognize those who’ve helped advise the college concerning curriculum and funding, or who’ve helped students transition into job and education opportunities at four-year institutions—was highlighted by speeches from both ECC President Jack Quinn and Dr. Zimpher before awards were distributed for Community Collaboration, Partners in Education and Advisory Council Appreciation.
“This event was not only a great opportunity to showcase the college’s many great attributes to the Chancellor, but also an opportunity to honor those who make this college as successful as it is,” said Quinn. “Our ability to serve the needs of our campus communities is dependent on the expertise of our advisory councils, so it was a pleasure to honor their work with such an event.
After Chancellor Zimpher’s keynote address on the future of SUNY, she joined Quinn, SUNY Trustee Eunice Lewin, ECC Board of Trustees chairwoman Patricia Mertz and ECC Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs Rick Washousky to hand out awards to Hon. Thomas Amodeo (Chief Judge of Buffalo City Court), Charles Bartel (Moog, Inc.), Lourdes Iglesias (Hispanics United of Buffalo), Sheryl Knab (Western New York Library Resources Council) and Caroline Spoth (Brooks Memorial Hospital) for Advisory Council Appreciation; César A. Cabrera (New York State Department of Labor), Daniel Driscoll (PCB Piezotronics, Inc.) and Leonard Fiume (National Grid) for Community Collaboration; and Christopher Sansone (Keller Technology Corporation), David Heer (Moog, Inc.), Donald Needham (Moog, Inc.) and Patrick Fonzi (John W. Danforth Company) as Partners in Education.
