SANBORN, N.Y. - Feb. 23 - The Erie Community College men's basketball team saw its 10-game win streak snapped when Niagara County Community College's Lorenzo Joseph scored on an offensive rebound as time expired and the Thunderwolves recorded a 69-67 win Thursday night. The Kats, ranked fourth in this week's poll, fall to 21-4 while NCCC is now 19-7.
After ECC's Darale Young (Buffalo, N.Y./Middle College) tied the game at 67 with a free throw and 64 seconds remaining, NCCC missed a chance to take the lead. However, after missing a shot and getting the offensive rebound, the Kats turned the ball over with seven seconds remaining. Following a miss, Joseph's putback rolled around the rim and fell in.
ECC was led by sophomore forward Uche Ogbonna (Westbury, N.Y./Hicksville) and his 14 points. Young added 13 points while sophomore guard Brandon Emmitt (Akron, Ohio/Garfield) and freshman forward Eyimofee Edukugho (Warri, Nigeria/Our Savior New American School) each scored 11 points. The Kats' 67 points are a season low as was their 45 percent (9x20) free throw shooting.
Jacob Hughes led NCCC with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Joseph finished with 14 points.
The Kats close the regular season against Jamestown Community College-Cattaraugus County at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Flickinger Center. ECC is holding a Coaches vs. Cancer event at the game.
