Hudson Valley CC Holds Off Kats, 8-5

TROY, N.Y. - Dec. 8 - The Hudson Valley Community College hockey team scored three unanswered goals in the second period and went on to record an 8-5 win over the Erie CC squad Saturday afternoon in a Region III matchup of nationally ranked teams. The Kats got within one goal three times but could not record the tying goal.

Hudson Valley CC, the nation's fourth-ranked team, got three goals each from William Huber and James Murphy.

The Kats, ranked fifth in the nation, were led by sophomore forward Ryan Rogalski (Lancaster) who recorded a goal and assisted on three others. Sophomore defenseman Jeff Szewczyk (West Seneca, N.Y.), freshman forward Matt Malley (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and freshman forward Matt Shumate (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) each added a goal and an assist.

ECC, now 6-5 overall, outshot Hudson Valley CC, 34-22.

The Kats will play the Canisius College ACHA team at noon Sunday at the Cheektowaga Rec Center.
