ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Sept. 15 - The Erie Community College football team ran for 307 yards and recorded nine quarterback sacks as the Kats downed Alfred State 30-7 Saturday afternoon in Region III action. The Kats, now 1-2 this season, were led by freshman running back Jacob Wims (Rochester, N.Y./John Marshall) who ran for a career-high 102 yards and added a 14-yard touchdown run.
After receiving the opening kickoff, ECC marched downfield and scored on a 5-yard pass from Will Robinson (Weequahic, N.J./Weequahic) to Nicholas Jones (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West). The Kats added a 45-yard field goal by Tyler Blackburn (Montrose, Mich./Montrose) before the half.
The ECC defense got on the scoreboard when Dorian Polk (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) had a 40-yard interception return for a score. Polk had two interceptions on the day.
Wims scored on a 14-yard run to give ECC a 23-0 lead in the third quarter before Alfred State's Shawn Charles returned the kickoff 90 yards to put the Pioneers on the board.
Robinson then scored on a 3-yard run to wrap the scoring. Freshman running back Derrick Peters (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) added a career-high 99 rushing yards. Freshman defensive lineman Ken Robinson (Newark, N.J./Weequahic) had six tackles, including 2.5 quarterback sacks.
ECC returns to Northeast Football Conference action Sept. 22 as the Kats host No. 13 Nassau CC at noon at Jim Ball Stadium.
