BUFFALO, N.Y. - May 29 - Erie Community College’s Uche Ogbonna (Westbury, N.Y./Hicksville) headlines the 2012-13 Daemen College men’s basketball signing class. Ogbonna is joined by junior-to-be Alvin Satram (Queens, N.Y./Pasco-Hernando Community College) and freshmen Supreme Hannah (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) and Jesse Lalka (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda). This quartet joins a team returning eight players, including four starters, and coming off its fourth American Mideast Conference Championship and fourth trip to the NAIA Division II National Tournament.
“Our immediate goals in recruiting for next year were to find a replacement for Dom (Mazzocchi) and another ball handler,” said Daemen head coach Don Silveri said referring to All-AMC first team performer.
Ogbonna, a 6-foot-5 forward, joins the Wildcats after helping the Kats to back-to-back appearances at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, with the team going 55-9 in that span, playing for Daemen alum Alex Nwora. After averaging 4.0 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in 2010-11, Ogbonna increased his production to 10.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 49% from the field en route to a third team All-Region III selection.
“Uche is a high-riser, high-energy type of player,” Silveri said. “He was a big part of what ECC was able to accomplish this past season and we’ll welcome his athleticism and competitiveness to our roster.”
Ogbonna, the son of Mazi and Nnenna Ogbonna, will be a pre-medicine major at Daemen this fall.
