NEW YORK, N.Y. - Nov. 27 - The Erie Community College men's basketball team recorded a 104-98 overtime win over the Globe Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon. The overtime win was the first for the Kats since a 93-91 win Dec. 3, 2004, over Lakeland Community College.
Sophomore guard Dequan Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./Pacific) led the Kats with 27 points and 15 rebounds, his second-straight double-double and third of the season. Sophomore forward Yandell Denis (Brooklyn/Xavier) added 26 points while Uchechi Ogbonna (Westbury, N.Y./Hicksville) recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double was Ogbonna's first of his career while the 10 rebounds set a career-high mark.
The Kats trailed 88-83 before Brandon Emmitt (Akron, Ohio/Garfield) hit a three-point field goal with seven seconds remaining. After a defensive stop, Shannon Haynes (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) sent the game into overtime by scoring with 1.5 seconds remaining.
The Kats, now 5-2 and ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, return to the Flickinger Center for a 7 p.m. matchup Thursday against Cuyahoga Community College.
