Kats Rally, Down No. 6 Jefferson CC in OT

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - April 28 - The Erie Community College lacrosse team rallied from a 7-0 deficit to pick up an 18-14 overtime win over sixth-ranked Jefferson CC Saturday afternoon at Jim Ball Stadium.

The Kats, now 7-6, await word of a possible berth in the Region III Tournament, held May 5-6 at Herkimer County CC.

ECC trailed 7-0 16 minutes into the contest and then was down 10-4 at halftime. The Kats kept cutting into the Jefferson CC lead and eventually tied the game 13-13 when sophomore Melanie Sterlace (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East) scored with 3:29 remaining. Freshman Gab Stribing (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) then gave the Kats a 14-13 lead with 2:14 left but Jefferson CC's Olivia Roggie then forced overtime by scoring with 30.6 seconds left.

Stribing gave the Kats the lead by scoring 90 seconds into the six-minute overtime session. Also scoring in the extra session for the Kats were freshman Emery Fleck (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) and Destiny Sampson (Irving, N.Y./Gowanda). Sampson netted two goals in OT.

Fleck had a team-high five goals in the game while Sterlace had three goals and three assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Angelica Rodriguez (Buffalo, N.Y./Midwood) made 16 saves.
