UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI – Both the Erie Community College men’s and women’s basketball team competed in the Delta Invitational in Michigan this weekend. Both teams played two games with one on Friday and one on Saturday.
For the men’s team, ECC split over the weekend. They won the opening game on Friday by a score of 82-70 over Kalamazoo CC but dropped the game Saturday 82-81 against Owens CC. In the game against Kalamazoo CC, Fabian Washington (Brooklyn, NY / Transit Tech) finished the game with (29) points and (4) rebounds while DaShawn King (Bronx, NY / ASE) finished the game with (21) points and (6) rebounds. On Saturday, Washington again led ECC with (22) points and (6) rebounds while Marcus Morris (Buffalo, NY / McKinley) chipped in with (16) points.
The Kats did have 14 turnovers in the game that led to points by Owens CC making their comeback attempt fall just short.
As for the women, they split both of their games as well. On Friday, the Lady Kats beat Rochester College 63-54. They were led by Crystal Marion (Buffalo, NY / St. Mary School for the Deaf) who totaled (20) points and (12) rebounds and Chelsea Raber (Lewiston, NY / Lew-Port) who finished with (12) points and (6) rebounds.
As for Saturday, they lost to Delta College 89-50. They struggled to score due to tough defense by Delta and Delta continued to push the ball up court most of the game leading to their big victory. The Kats were led by Aaliyah Dunbar (Rochester, NY / East) who finished with (20) points, (4) assists and (4) rebounds.
Both teams will travel to the Finger Lakes on Wednesday to battle Finger Lakes CC at 6/8 p.m.
