Softball sweeps Niagara

Thursday, May 06, 2010
Sophomore Carolyn Sickau pitched a pair of complete games to lead the Erie Community College (13-17) softball team to a doubleheader sweep over Niagara County Community College (7-17) in Sanborn Wednesday. Erie won the opener 8-0 in five innings and the second game 4-1.

Sickau allowed just three hits and struck out eight batters to earn the shutout in game one. Erie took a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a three-run double by freshman Kara Edwards. Freshman Megan Marciniak had a triple and two RBI in the game and freshman Alyssa Taborn also had a double.
Taborn had two hits, including a solo home run to lead the Kats in the nightcap. Marciniak, Sickau and sophomore Kristin Ball ripped triples in the game. Sickau allowed one run on five hits. She struck out five and walked one.

Erie will close out its season this Saturday, May 8 when it visits Onondaga Community College.
