BUFFALO, N.Y. – March 4 – Erie Community College’s women's 200 medley relay team set a school record as it finished seventh at Friday’s NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.
The Kats’ team of Julia Kaczmarek (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore West), Rachelle Schmitt (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois), Raena Koeppel (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and Caitlin Schwinge (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) had a time of 2:03.22 to finish seventh.
Two NJCAA records were set as Lincoln College’s Bryce Bohman lowered his own record in the 100 backstroke in 48.11 seconds. Bohman set the record during Wednesday’s 400 medley relay. Indian River State College’s Tryshi Centeno set the women’s 100 breaststroke mark in 1:02.96.
On the men’s side, ECC’s team of Ryan Walter (Angola, N.Y./St. Francis), Ryan Tomporowski (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East), Mike Mazurkiewicz (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and Brett Farrell (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) finished 13th at 1:54.55
Other point scorers for ECC were Kaczmarek was 13th in the 100 backstroke at 1:06.88 while Schmitt was 16th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:17.76.
The ECC women’s team is in 11th place with 67 points while defending champion Indian River State College leads with 566 points. The Kats’ men’s team is in 11th place with 40 points. Defending champion Indian River State College is in first with 662 points.
The NJCAA Championships conclude Saturday.
