BUFFALO, N.Y. – Jan. 28 – After rallying to force overtime, the Erie Community College men’s basketball team picked up a 79-72 win over Jamestown Community College Saturday afternoon at the Flickinger Center. ECC, the nation’s seventh-ranked team, got two free throws from sophomore forward Uche Ogbonna (Westbury, N.Y./Hicksville) with 31.4 seconds remaining in regulation. JCC, which entered the game unbeaten in Western New York Athletic Conference play at 3-0, missed a three-point field goal as the clock expired.
In overtime, sophomore forward Yandell Denis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavierian) scored four-straight points from sophomore guard Dequan Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./Pacific) sank a three-point field goal for a 70-65 lead with 3:33 to play. Sophomore guard Sam Hattin (Hamilton, Ont./Our Savior) then added a three-pointer for a 73-66 lead at 3:01.
Ogbonna led ECC, now 12-3 overall and 2-1 in WNYAC play, with 17 points while Jones and Hattin added 15 and 14, respectively. Freshman forward Eyimofee Edukugho (Warri, Nigeria/Our Savior New American School) recorded 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
Jamestown CC (11-9) were led by Andrew Joseph’s 23 points.
ECC plays Monroe Community College Tuesday night in Rochester, N.Y.
