BUFFALO, N.Y. – (Nov. 17) – Erie Community College freshman swimmer Julia Kaczmarek (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) set a school record in the 100 backstroke with her time of 1:06.55 as the Kats defeated Alfred State 90-52 in a dual at Alfred State Wednesday night. Alfred State defeated ECC 89-79 in the men’s competition.
Kaczmarek set the record while swimming the opening leg of the 400-yard medley relay. She also won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:30.14 and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.18.
Also swimming a leg on the 400 medley relay and winning two events were:
• Rachelle Schmitt (Elma/Iroquois), 100 backstroke (1:19.41); 100 freestyle (1:06.26);
• Caitlin Schwinger (Amherst/Sweet Home), 500 freestyle (6:14.72), 1,650 freestyle (21:47.67);
• Brittany Schurnstein (Cheektowaga/John F. Kennedy), 50 freestyle (29.10), 100 butterfly (1:18.20)
On the men’s side, Brett Farrell (Derby/Lake Shore) won the 50 and 100 freestyle races with times of 22.57 and 51.52 seconds, respectively. He also had a leg on the Kats’ winning 400 medley relay.
The Kats will compete next in Saturday’s Herkimer County Community College Invitational.
