Kats Split with Schenectady

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – March 14 – The Erie Community College baseball team split its two games against Schenectady County Community College Monday. SCCC won the opener 5-4 in eight innings before the Kats used a four-run first inning to record a 7-1 win.
In the nightcap, freshman Ron Lawrence (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cleveland Hill) struck out eight in five innings. Freshman Matt Creenan (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) had a two-run single in the first inning while classmate Mike Wagner (Clarence, N.Y./St. Mary’s) recorded two hits and score twice.
The opening game saw Jesse Zellner (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) strike out eight while allowing three hits in seven innings. Austin Benshadle (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville North) had three hits while sophomore Neal Demartin (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) had two hits and scored two runs.
ECC, now 3-3 on the season, is off Tuesday and returns to action Wednesday against Cuyahoga Community College.
