ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - March 14 - The Erie Community College baseball team had five players drive in two runs as the Kats won their fifth-straight game by defeating Minnesota State Community and Technical College 18-3 Wednesday. ECC is now 5-1 and ranked sixth in the nation.
Sophomores Adam Grace (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls), Matt Creenan (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence) and Jesse Zellner (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda) each drove in two runs as did freshmen Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville, N.Y./ Williamsville South) and Brian McCarthy (Tonawanda, N.Y./Tonawanda). ECC scored three times in the first and third
innings, four runs in the fourth and seven runs in the seventh inning of the scheduled nine-inning game.
Sophomore Mike Wagner (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Mary’s) collected four hits, scored three times and drove in a run.
Grace continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-3 while Zellner had two hits and scored three times. Grace entered the game with a .667 batting average.
Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) struck out five batters while allowing one hit in four innings of work on the mound to record the win.
