BUFFALO, N.Y. (June 27) – The Erie Community College athletics department finished 19th in the scholarship division in the 2011-12 National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup Standings. The Kats, who have finished in the Top 20 the past six years, finished with 69 points.
Rankings in the NATYCAA Cup are formulated by awarding NJCAA institutions with points based on competition at NJCAA Championship events. A first-place finish is worth 20 points; second place is worth 19 points; etc. The top five best finishes from each school qualify for points in the standings. Iowa Central Community College repeated as the scholarship division champion.
“Once again, ECC athletics has had another successful year,” said Peter Jerebko, ECC athletics director. “In addition to the programs that have consistently competed at the national tournament, we saw our women’s basketball program qualify for the national tournament for the first time in its history. We look forward to the upcoming 2012-13 seasons as we return a number of outstanding student-athletes and coaches.”
Overall, ECC was 52nd in the inaugural Junior/Community College Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, which combines scholarship, non-scholarship, and state associations. Fresno City College won three championships to take the top spot.
The NATYCAA Cup program was begun in 2004.
