WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - April 18 - The Erie Community College baseball team ran its win streak to four as the Kats rallied to record a 3-2 win in eight innings over Finger Lakes CC in game two of a Region III doubleheader at the ECC north campus diamond. The Kats recorded a 12-1 win in the opener.
Sophomore outfielder Vinny Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) recorded a two-out double in the eighth inning before back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Sherman scored the game-winning run on a FLCC error.
In game two, sophomore outfielder Brian Barry (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) homered in the sixth inning and doubled and scored in the fourth. Freshman Matt Wilhelm (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) picked up the win, tossing 5 and 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
In the opener, Sherman homered and singled to drive in two runs. Freshman outfielder Nick Caboot (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) also singled and homered while driving in two runs. Freshman infielder Brett Bauth (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) and sophomore infielder Trent Unverdorben (Portville, N.Y./Portville) each added two hits. Freshman infielder Michael D'Eletto (Wayne, N.Y./Wayne) drove in three runs. Freshman Bill Brancatella (West Seneca, N.Y./Canisius) improved to 2-2 with a complete game, striking out eight.
ECC, now 21-12, plays a doubleheader at Corning CC Saturday. The teams will play at ECC Sunday.
